Round up of 2020 Favorites from Vans!

Californian-based lifestyle brand, Vans, was first conceived in 1966 by Paul and Jim Van Doren. Vans built its initial following by giving away free shoes to iconic skaters like Tony Alva and Stacy Peraltasta. Skaters favoured Van's signature style the Authentic for its thicker waffle soles, offering them better grip, durability. In 1976, the brand tapped the Alva and Peraltasta to help tweak and enhance the Authentic, launching the new and improved Era silhouette - a design made by skateboarders for skateboarders.

The brand has since focused on elevating its core styles (the Authentic, Era, Old Skool, Sk8-Hi and Slip-On), launching its Vault collection 2003, Vans digs deep into their 45-year old archive to fuse classic silhouettes with modern interpretations. Additionally, Vans began tapping notable brands and designers to revamp classic silhouettes, marking its foray into the fashion world.

SANDY LIANG x VANS

Vans tapped New York-based designer Sandy Liang on a limited-edition collection of footwear and apparel. The designer takes inspiration from her childhood memories, utilizing a mixture of textiles and detailing to evoke a sense of luxury fused with inspirations from her hometown. The Vans Sport and Old Skool silhouette was given a revamp featuring kitschy leopard print uppers and other styles touched on influences from the 90's and 2000's - the UA Old Skool Black featured butterfly motifs along the sole and UA Old Skool Pink was constructed with a plush velvet upper in baby pink, adorned with punk-inspired chains that criss-cross like a corset or the diamond eyelets on the Era silhouette - reminiscent of the diamante trend.

FAST TIMES CHECKERBOARD SLIP-ON

In 1982, Vans took the world by storm when its classic checkerboard Slip-on was sported by Sean Penn in the legendary teen flick 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High'. The checkerboard style was first introduced in the early 80's and has become one of Vans' most recognisable and iconic styles. Celebrating its transcendence to popular culture, the brand reissued the promotional shoe from the 80's featuring a wraparound Fast Times print around its waffle sole.

UA SUPER COMFYCUSH SLIP-ON

Go big or go home. The UA Super Comfycush Slip-On features a double platform outsole that is made of melded foam and rubber for extra comfort and grip. Enhanced with a maximalist approach, Vans delivers its signature styles with added stabilization.
